In-Person Janome Masterclass

March 19, 2024

Hi all,

I just want to tell you about some exciting in-person teaching happening this spring. Apart from me being back in London in April (details below), I will also teach two very popular classes at Janome HQ UK. The Skinny Inset Strips workshop on May 20th, where we’ll make the Wax Lyrical or Kenny and Dolly quilts and the Hexibore Quilt above (quilted by @schnigschnagquiltsandmore), on May 21st, including the four and six-petalled version. You’ll find more details on all of these below, just click on the link to book a spot.

Each Janome Masterclass includes:
Refreshments, light buffet lunch and cake
The use of a Janome sewing machine for the day
PDF paper templates
Two pdf patterns
A one-hour ‘Get ready!’ session via zoom
The recording of the ‘Get ready!’ session
10% class discount on templates

Hexibore Quilt:
In this class we’ll sew no-pin curves that, when they are put together, cut into wedges and joined, create a kaleidoscope style flower with either six or four petals. I will show you how to get accurate angles on your wedges, how to get the seams to match and lots more. In the prep session there will be lots of colour talk and how to choose colours that accentuate the folds.

We will be looking at the two different versions but also at how else you can use this design, like on this version below by @saija_elina

Skinny Inset Strips:

In this techniques class you’ll learn to sew no-pin curves and skinny inset strips using my Drunkard’s Path templates. This exact and intriguing technique allows you to add a line drawing effect to your sewing. This can be used for improv or precision piecing.
I will show you how to sew and trim the different blocks that make up the Wax Lyrical or the Kenny and Dolly Quilt patterns. I will also show you lots of options on how to make your own version and how to best use the different blocks in your own design.

LONDON:

Two out of four days are now sold out. Let me know, by replying to this email, if you want to be on the waiting list for either class.

The workshops will be held at the HC LAB in Clerkenwell, find more information about the location and the venue HERE.

Sewing machines kindly supplied by Janome UK.

Finish That Quilt:

Have you got a quilt that is stuck in WIP purgatory? This class is for you! Bring in your project so I can help, encourage and inspire you to get that quilt finished!

I can help you with everything from how to baste your quilt, different ways to quilt your quilt (either machine stitching using your walking foot or hand sewing with luscious Perle Cotton) and how to bind your quilt (get the perfect mitred corner, how to do the invisible hand finish).

Time and date:

10am – 5pm on April 18th.

Level:

Suitable for beginner to advanced quilters. A basic quilting knowledge (how to use a rotary cutter and ruler and to sew using an accurate seam allowance e.t.c.) is assumed.

This Way and That:

In this techniques class we will be exploring the Twice-cut Drunkard’s Path technique. We’ll be using the Complete 14” Drunkard’s Path set in combination with the Complete and Oval set to create blocks with transparency and multiple curves in different directions (this way and that).
I will show you how to pick colours that enhance the transparency between the different curves. The 14” block looks great multiplied by four to create a 28” block for a cushion, mini quilt or bag panel or as the 56” or 84” quilt sizes included in your pattern.

Time and date:
10am – 5pm on April 19th.

Level:
Suitable for confident beginners to advanced sewists. A basic quilting knowledge (how to use a rotary cutter and ruler and to sew using an accurate seam allowance e.t.c.) is assumed but no previous curved-piecing skills are needed.

I am very much looking forward to see what you all come up with using my templates and playing with the techniques shared in class. And as usual, you can always email with any questions. You know where to find me.
