Learning objectives:

Do you want to learn how to sew No-pin Curves, Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) using Freezer paper, draft your own perspective stairs and sew Y-seams in one course?

Over the course of three weeks (three sessions) we will break down this exciting design and I will show you how you create your own Floating Stairs pattern.

Week #1 – We will talk about perspective, vanishing points and how you draw this design from scratch, starting with small scale drawings on graph paper to play with the curves and perspective. You’ll be given the measurements for all my different curved templates and you can choose to include them all, a selection and mix of circles and ovals or just one size and shape. Suggestions of a few different versions will be supplied or you can create your own design.

Week #2 – Your chosen design will be scaled up on freezer paper to make a FPP (Foundation Paper Piecing) pattern for your stairs. We will sew the stairs, covering all the stages of Foundation Paper Piecing using Freezer Paper- how to prep the paper, what stitch length to use, how best to put the block together and more.

Week #3 – Assembly time. To create the curves we will use my Drunkard’s Path Templates* (Oval or Circular), a tool that makes precise blocks that are easy to piece together, together with my No-pin Curves technique. The machine-pieced curves are pieced together with the background and stairs using a mix of techniques including y-seams.

Beware! This workshop is not for the faint hearted as we will cover many different techniques, but if you are up for a challenge and the modern design is drawing you in, this class is for you.

Intermediate. We cover lots of different techniques during these three dates so a few quilt projects under your belt previous to taking this workshop will help. No previous curve piecing required.
