Pond Skater Quilt – an Online Group Workshop – January 21st and February 18th

This is an online course consisting of an extra long, two-hour, ‘Get Ready!’ session where I go through the pattern and what you need to prep as well as show you how I choose colours. This is followed a few weeks later by a four-hour group session, all via zoom. The workshop consists of two one-hour demo’s by me, each followed by solo sewing and questions by you.

Learning objectives:

Colour value, design and precision piecing are the three big elements in this new and exciting class. There will be no shortage of other techniques like no-pin curve sewing, pressing and assembly but we will do a deep dive into colour and how to create the ‘shadow’ in the secondary pattern.

In the extra long, two-hour, ‘Get ready!’ session I will show you how to use TouchDraw to pick your colours and create the ‘shadow’. The techniques I’ll share with you should be straight forward enough to use in your your favourite drawing program. I will also show you more analog ways for those who prefer not to use the computer for colouring in. And there is always the old favourite of mine, the gut. If it feels right to you then it is right for you so don’t get too bogged down about colour.

The workshop is based on the Pond Skater Quilt pattern and the NEW Long Oval Multiple DP templates (in combination with the Complete DP set) but there will be tips on how to use other PSS templates to create these rings that appear to float on top of your curves.

Level:

Aimed for intermediate to advanced sewists. But there will be tips on how to do  an easier version of the Pond Skater Quilt to accommodate confident beginners. A basic quilting knowledge (how to use a rotary cutter and ruler and to sew using an accurate seam allowance e.t.c.) is assumed and an interest/fascination in precision piecing will certainly help.

Templates used:

The Pond Skater Quilt is made with the NEW **Long Oval Multiple DP set in combination with the Complete DP set. See shipping info in the shop blurb. 

Paper templates will be included but my custom Acrylic templates are recommended for ease and accuracy.
